Photograph album for 'No.X Aircraft Depot Royal Air Force Alexandria & Aboukir, Egypt, 1916 - 1919'. Thin card cover and 33 pages each with a 15 x 10cm black and white photograph (total of 65). X Aircraft Depot, Alexandria received aircraft from England for erection at the depot and machines from units within Egypt and Palestine for repair/striking off. The photographs are all captioned and show the headquarters buildings; personnel in Royal Flying Corps uniforms (HQ staff, carpenters, fitters, stores staff etc); contents of the buildings including small fabric parts; aircraft fittings; spare wings; tools; motor spares; machine gun spares; engine spares; balloon spares; the depots motor transport vehicles; tennis courts; engine erecting shop; engine testing; hangars; riggers shop; dismantling shop; dope shop and salvage hangar. The album itself is rather tatty with torn loose/detached front cover and creased and dog-eared pages. The photographs are all glued in place and are in good condition. All captions are legible. A superb and scarce record of this depot at the end of the Great war and into the early days of the RAF. Stock code P22873-23.
