RAF Irvin flying jacket, S6

SOLD

Code: J22236

'Thermally Insulated Flying Suit, Jacket'.  Stores reference 22c/322.  Size 6 (Height 5'11" - 6-1, Breast 40 - 42").  Physically measures 46 - 47" (pit to pit) so should be suitable for around a 42" chest.  This example is of typical early war configuration with single panel front and single seam back panel construction.  The leather is in good overall condition retaining much of the original chromed finish and flexibility.  It does have areas of scuffing and wear - notably the sleeves and elbows.  In addition there is  small puncture hole in the outer layer of the leather (front left and rear left panels as worn - see pic 13 for one of these).  Neither go right through the jacket.   The main issue is a crude but effective repair to a tear on the front right shoulder as worn (11).  A leather patch has been applied from the inside and appears to have been glued and stitched in place.  Whilst this does the job it could undoubtedly have been done more neatly and it may be worth  redoing.  Excellent short dense fur lining and collar facing.  Both cuffs are rather worn but the waist retains good fur.  All zips are original  D-o-T brand  and have leather pull tags (main is worn).  Whilst in working order they would benefit from lubrication.  Complete with belt, collar strap / rings, eyelets for rear collar strap (absent) and chain hanger.   Air Ministry King's crown marked label with 1939 contract date code.  Further photographs available on request.
Approximate measurements : pit to pit 23", pit to cuff 22", Collar seam to waist 23.5".  All taken with jacket laid flat and zipped.
