RAF Irvin flying jacket

SOLD

Code: J22465

'Thermally Insulated Flying Suit, Jacket'.  Stores reference 22c/322.  Size 6 (Height 5'11" - 6-1, Breast 40 - 42").  Physically measures 46 - 47" (pit to pit) so should be suitable for around a 42" chest.  This example is of typical early war configuration with single panel front and single seam back panel construction.  The leather is in good overall condition retaining much of the original chromed finish and flexibility.  It does have areas of scuffing and wear - notably the sleeves and elbows.  The main issue is a repair on the front right shoulder as worn.  A leather patch has been applied from the inside and appears to have been glued in place (11).  In  addition there is a small external patch in the shoulder area (10) and a couple of small tears in the cuff area of the right sleeve 12,13).  The leather is somewhat fragile in this area.   Very good short dense fur lining and collar facing but both cuffs and waist are rather worn and there is a small bare patch near the hanger.  All zips are original Lightning or D-o-T brand and in good working order, the main c/w leather pull tab.  Some seams would benefit from some minor restitching.  Complete with belt, collar strap / rings, eyelets for rear collar strap (absent) and chain hanger.  Great for display or undertake a few repairs and wear it.  Further photographs available on request.
Approximate measurements : pit to pit 23", pit to cuff 22", Collar seam to waist 23.5". All taken with jacket laid flat and zipped.  Stock code J22236.
