FAA N-type flying helmet - early pattern

SOLD

Code: H22513

Fleet Air Arm type 'N' helmet (often incorrectly referred to as the FAA D-type).  Size 4 (71/2 - 73/4).  Intended for use in tropical/desert climates in the Middle East, Mediterranean, North Africa etc. and incorporating a neck flap at the rear to provide sun protection.  The material is lightly soiled but in excellent condition.  The straps are very good and retain most of their original coatings.  The helmet is fitted with zipped leather earpieces - both are very good bar light scuffing and abrasion and have excellent brass zips.  The earpieces have their original receiver carriers in place and are padded with a decent set of original RCAF foam rubber cushions.  The satin lining has average soiling but is in very good condition. Previous owners have written names inside and on the forehead.  This is an early externally wired pattern helmet with leather chinstrap and Bennett buckle.  Studded for use with early Type D oxygen masks as well as the later E, G & series masks.   With a clear Air Ministry King's crown stamp.  Supplied without wiring or receivers.  A very good used example of this rarer variant of the D-series helmets.  Stock code H122513.
