RAF C-type flying helmet, modified early patt

SOLD

Code: H22090

Stores reference 22c/452.  Size 4 (71/2 - 73/4).  An interesting early 'C' variant that has been manufactured or modified for use with an internal wiring loom.  I tend to think that it was manufactured this way as the work has been executed very well.   The leather is in good overall condition - clean and quite supple but rather crumpled and with some surface abrasion on the upper right side (as worn).  Originally designed to be fitted with 4 goggle straps, the front ones have been carefully removed, perhaps as part of the modifications.  The remaining two are in very good condition and the press studs retain most of the original coating.  Very good Bennett buckle and chinstrap although the metal end tip is absent.  Both rubber receiver carriers are good/undamaged.  The chamois lining is rather soiled and there is a smallish hole on one of the donuts (see photograph).  Clear Air Ministry King's crown label and indistinct embossed marks near microphone plug.  Comes with integral mid tan coloured wiring loom, matched type 32 receivers and early brown cased jackplug (spring cable protector  has pulled out).  A good to good '+' used example of a rare helmet variant.  Stock code H22090.
