British made ink stamp used for date stamping documents. Approximately 10.5cm tall x 3.5cm x 3.0cm. Black painted metal body with a spring loaded wooden handle. H.M.S.O. cast into one side. When depressed a small ink pad moves to the side allowing the selected date to make contact with the paper. As the pressure is released the stamp rises and returns to make contact with the ink pad. The date can be changed by rotating the barrel on which they are mounted. The date range is from 1940 to about 1960 Ex. RAF Bovingdon, the base opened to the RAF in 1941 and the USAAF moved in during 1942 (station 112. Very good used condition. Stock code M20123.
