USAAF 8th AAF Grouping - 423rd Bombardment Squadron

Documents and insignia relating to Staff Sergeant Earle E. Whittemore, an aircraft and engine mechanic who servied with the 423rd Bomb Squadron, 306th Bombardment Group which operated in England and France.  It is comprised of the following : 

His certificate of technical aircraft training from the Boeing Flying Fortress School and a paper slip showing the modesl covered. Both c.1942
His AAF Corporal rank certificate c.1942 & Sergeant rank certificate c. 1942 (both folded).
Typed foolscap sheet marked 'Confidential' from HQ of the 306th BG and relating to the award of a presidential unit citation for extraordinary heroism in action against the enemy on January 11th 1944. It details the targets, Focke Wulf & Junkers parts factories, and has full raid details.  Because of this Whittemore would have been entitled to wear the distinguished unit citation badge.
His Armed Service New York Port of Embarkation certificate for his return trip to the USA from Southampton, dated October 1945.
His Separation Qualification record c.1945 listing his details, rank, AAF occupation (airplane and engine mechanic)
His Honorable Disharge Certificate c. November 1945 lisiting his service record, battles/campaigns  including Air Offensive Europe, Ardennes; Central Europe; Normandy; Northern France; Rhineland. It also lists his decorations and citations  including American Service medal, distinguished unit badge, European-African-Middle Eastern service medal, good conduct medal and WW2 Victory medal. 
Certificate in recognition of his service and faithful performance.
Brochure giving 'Honorary Freedom of Cambridge to the Eighth United States Army Air Forces' - 6p leaflet issued to 8th AAF personnel at the end of WW2.

A few small photographs of personnel and around the base and two unused postcards - HQ Chanute Field, Rantoul, Illinois & The Rest Gardens, Southbourne.
His Sergeant stripes (unused set) and a nice machine made 8th AAF shoulder patch.

An interesting little grouping that we first sold 17 years ago and recently repurchased as part of large collection of 8th/9th AAF paperwork/documents.  Worthy of further research.  Stock code P24213.
