USAAF 8th AAF 94th bomb group air medal grouping

SOLD

Code: P24215A-16

Small grouping to Technical Sergeant John J. Carbo (Service No. 11090191), born 1922, who enlisted in September 1942 and served with the 410th Bomb Squadron, 94 Bombardment Group (H), 8th AAF, on B-17 Flying Fortresses based at Bury St. Edmunds (AAF station 468).  He was discharged from service on 26th October 1945.  Consists of his record and discharge sheet; honorable discharge certificate; certificate in recognition of service presented by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts; machine made 8th AAF shoulder patch, communications sleeve patch; Sterling marked clutch-backed airgunner wing and cased Air Medal with lapel ribbon badge and mounted ribbon.  This comes with a newspaper clipping referring to the award at the age of 22, of the air medal, for meritorious achievement during bombing attacks on Nazi military and industrial targets and in support of Allied ground forces.  The Air Medal was instigated in 1942 and awarded for single acts of heroism or meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight.  In addition there are 15 original photogrpahs showing Carbo in uniform, in flying kit, wearing an A-2 and visor cap etc.  Others are air to air images actually taken on raids showing B-17s, flak burst, bombs dropping etc.  Some are captioned on the front in ink and pencil to the reverse. There are also a couple of photographs taken over Dover and the French Coast plus a postcard of the Eiffel tower.  A nice grouping in very good condition.  This really needs further research.  Stock code P24215A-16.
