Original photograph, approximately 9.5 x 11.8cm. It shows an airman of the 401st bombardment group in his flying kit. Named to rear 'Mace' and dated December 1943. Good clear image. The 401st flew B-17 Flying Fortresses from Deenethorpe, Northamptonshire as part of the 8th AAF. This could possibly be Staff Sergeant Kenneth Mace, an airgunner killed in action when B-17G 42-97578 stalled after take off for a mission to Schweinfurt and crashed into a barracks on 24th March 1944.
