Type K-1. Stores reference 15A/144. Essentially this is a standard 'Observer' harness for use with clip on chest-type parachute packs. It was manufactured by Irvin Air Chute c.May 1979 in very light brown webbing with a central fleck. It is fitted with a large black painted MK.14 fully rounded quick release box (QRB). With dated Irvin label and serial number. The webbing is in good undamaged condition but a little soiled through normal use. Some of the metalwork is tarnished but this should clean up with a little effort. The QRB functions correctly but is rather stiff to operate. It's worth noting that it could be removed and replaced via the 'Lift-the-Dot' fastener. This means that a wartime pattern QRB could be fitted to give a convincing wartime look. The harness is also ftted with an Irvin made MK.1 backpad, stores reference 15A/191. This is 1953 dated and in good order though grubby and with verdigris deposits on the metalwork. The original Royal Navy /Fleet Air Arm owner's name is on a patch to the rear of the pad. An interesting postwar harness for display or use as a strarting point for a wartime 'lookalike' at a fraction of the cost. Stock code S24374.
