RAF D-type flying helmet, late pattern

Stores reference 22c/971, size 3 (71/8 - 73/8). Intended for use in tropical/desert climates in the Middle East, Mediterranean, North Africa etc., this cotton drill helmet incorporates a neck flap at the rear to provide sun protection.  The material is in excellent clean condition with no damage whatsoever.  Marked with stores code and war department broad arrow. The straps are are equally good and all retain most of the original finish on the press stud fasteners.  The rubber receiver carriers are also very good.  Lined in off-white satin with moderate even soiling. The only damage is where it has pulled away from one of the studs (see photos).  The chamois donuts also have light even soiling.  Fully wired with light tan loom, black cased jackplug and type 32 receivers(10A/13466). The elasticated webbing chinstrap retains excellent colour and elasticity.  Marked with the owner's service number on the neckflap. An excellent lightly used helmet.  Stock code H23448.
