Interwar flying helmet worn by CAG pilot

SOLD

Code: H24405

No manufacturer's markings.   Small size. Typical 1930s private purchase flying helmet produced in soft mid-tan coloured  leather with a blanket lining. Press studded earflaps contain 'D.H. Type' earphones for use with 'Gosport'  type communication tubes.  Leather chinstrap with single pronged buckle fastening.  The leather is generally very supple but is a little scuffed and there is a repaired tear at the front which although quite obvious, is strong with a patch between the leather and lining.  Labelled with the owner's name and unknown numbers.  The helmet belonged to Charles Taylor who flew as a Civil Air Guard pilot.  He volunteered for the RAF in 1939 but was turned down because at the age of 33, was considered too old!  Purchased directly from his son.  Stock code H24405.
