RAF / FAA 1941 pattern floating torch, boxed

SOLD

Code: MW25240

By G.E.C. This is a rarer variant of the floating “torch” for the 1941 patt. Mae West.  This type doesn't have a separate wooden bulb holder, the lamp being an integral part of the battery container.  This cylindrical metal container has its original drab blue-grey paint finish and the bulb and red cover/lens are attached to the top.  A red lens would suggest FAA use for this example.  Complete with string lanyard to attach to the Mae West.  Also has original paper label attached dated May 1943.  The paint finish on the battery case is very good although there is light paint chipping and minor surface corrosion and the label is worn/stained.  Also comes with the original card issue box in well worn condition and lacking end flap.  This comes from my own collection following an upgrade.  Please note this does not fit a standard 2-piece Mae West pocket and would probably have been contained in a rigger-made pocke.  Stock code MW25240.
