RAF type-H oxygen mask, WW2 dated

SOLD

Code: O18740

Size medium.  Dated 4-45,  there appears to be a '3' adjacent to the '4' too).  Extremely rare wartime dated example of this otherwise relatively common mask.  The rubber facepiece retains reasonably good overall shape although the edge is curling a bit and the lower front area is squashed inwards as shown in the photographs.  The rubber is grubby but remains pliable.  There is cracking at the usual stress points, around the expiratory valve, harness retaining lugs, microphone, inlet pipe etc.  The mask edges have hardened a little and there is minor loss.  The rubber sheathing over the microphone loom is also perishing with some loss.  The pearl grey suede lining is complete but grubby.  Fitted with a type 57 microphone assembly and a flecked light tan coloured loom with the correct large 2-pin socket, type 614, 10H/18196.  The webbing harness is a bit dirty/worn and lacks elasticity but is complete.  Remnants of the original rubber bands also remain.  These late war H-masks are very difficult to obtain in any condition and are considerably rarer than the G-type mask.  A reasonable used example that might be improved with careful cleaning.  Stock code O18740.
