RAF Station side drum

SOLD

Code: M24601

By Premier.  Approximately 37cm diameter x 35cm depth.  Large Royal Air Force band side drum with a brass shell, wooden counterhoop and snare counterhoop, each hand painted in RAF colours.  All other fittings are manufactured in solid brass.  Fabulous transfer decorated King's crown R.A.F crest and coat of arms.  The drum is rope tensioned with thick felt tabs.  Genuine original animal hide top (batter head) but this does have damage that appears to have been patched  many years ago.  The snarehead (lower skin) is absent.  The shell is in good condition but there is some paint loss over the painted sections as shown in the photographs.  It would also benefit from careful cleaning and perhaps a gentle waxing.  The tension ropes are complete and appear to have been 'blancoed' in places.  Whilst the brass snare strainer remains in position the actual snare 'wires' (gut) are absent.  Maker marked and 1946 dated but identical to wartime examples.  Premier is a household name in the world of perussion.  Founded in 1922 they continued production during WW2, providing not only instruments for the the Armed Forces but also employed in the production of precision-engineered metalwork for the War Office.  A very impressive and scarce display piece.  Stock code M24601.

NB. The shipping costs are a 'best estimate' but may need adjustment depending on the  location of the buyer and insurance requirements.
