SOLD

Code: P25474

'Swimming And Wet Dinghy Instruction, A Handbook For Instructors'.  A.P.2868., 1st Edition, August 1944.  P/b, 18 x 24.5cm, 23pp.  Prepared by Direction of the Minister of Air Production and marked 'Restricted - For Official Use Only'.  In a service operating so frequently over open waters, swimming was a necessary part of training and could mean the difference between life and death.  This rarely found official Air Publication provides instructions on swimming techniques, floating, treading water etc. It includes techniques to be used when wearing flying clothing and a Mae West.  It also covers exiting a 'ditched' floating aircraft and boarding a survival dinghy.  Information regarding life saving apparatus covers fitting a Mae West, the 'K', 'L', 'J' & 'Q' type dinghies and so on.  There are details about righting inverted dinghies, paddling, lifting an injured man into a dinghy and exercises designed to promote warmth.  A fascinating insight into survival techniques for airmen ending up in the sea.  The cover is a little dog-eared and soiled but condition is generally good.  Stock code P25474.
