British Army Jerkin

Jerkin, Leather, No.2, Camouflaged.  By Dephyrane Garments Ltd., London. Size 2 (Height 5'7" - 5'10", Breast over Jacket 37-43").  Single-breasted sleeveless jerkin produced in chestnut brown leather closed by four plastic buttons at the front and lined with khaki serge.  Although labelled as 'Camouflaged' there is no evidence remaining of the usual application of dark green colouring.  The jerkin is in very sound condition and although it has surface rubbing and wear, remains strong and supple.  The lining is very good, complete with manufacturer's label.  One button has been replaced. These garments were introduced during the Great War and became increasingly popular with all troops including RAF groundcrews during WW2, being of great benefit during cold weather conditions.  Stock code J25883.
