WW1 period RFC 'used' flying goggles

SOLD

Code: G26132

Typical WW1 privately purchased goggles with a blanket backed brown chromed leather facepiece and simple adjustable strap.  The 'pear-shaped' clear laminated glass lenses are held within alloy frames, backed with 'sprung' knitted fabric.  There are no official or commercial markings.  The leather is in excellent supple condition but the backing shows wear and some loss of 'pile'.  The frames are very good and  although the lenses have some delamination marks, they display well.  The strap is part material, part elastic and is heavily worn/ragged as shown.  There is also corrosion on the adjustment clasps.  The goggles came in a pressed fibre Triplex Safety Glass Company box (Model 'FWT'), but although a good fit, we do not believe these to be of Triplex manufacture.  Typical of private purchase goggles worn by aviators of the Great War period.  Good used condition. Stock code G26132.
