RAF STAD63 flying goggles

SOLD

Code: G26428

Stadium 1963 flying goggles.  Blue-grey painted white metal frames with ovoid clear glass lenses and a single-piece rubber face cushion.  These were worn with the MK.1A flying helmet before the widespread introduction of visors in the mid-1950s.  The frame is paint chipped on exposed surfaces but generally very good.  It is marked with a war department broad arrow and 'STAD 1963'.  The cushion is complete, undamaged and remains very flexible.  Fitted with clear Triplex (XXX) glass lenses, one of which has a small crack as shown.  The original elasticated strap is very good and appears to retain full elasticity.  With one spare Triplex (XXX) tinted lens (some delamination marks) and the original issue tin.  This is quite worn and the foam lining meant to protect the goggles has disintegrated.  An extremely rare pair of goggles in very good used condition.  We've had far fewer pairs of these than most WW2 variants!  Stock code G26428.
