United States Army Air Forces stereoscopic viewer. It is manufactured in black painted cast white metal, inset with twin lenses. Folding wire legs lock into position for use and fold flat for storage. Marked 'Property Airforces U.S. Army'. Used by photo-reconnaissance staff to view aerial photographs for interpretation purposes. The use of these helped to ascertain accuracy of bombing, pinpointing of targets and so on. The lenses are very good but the viewer has lost some of the paint finish - easily refinished if desired. A super display piece and considerably rarer than the equivalent RAF type.
