By W.T. Ellmore & Sons of Thurmaston, Leicestershire, manufacturers of cane, rattan, bamboo and wicker furniture between 1880 and early post war period.  This super armchair is constructed with a bamboo frame and woven wicker seat, back and arms.  The generous proportions made them highly suited for wartime aircrew and they were favoured by resting pilots due to their extremely comfortable design (see the period photograph of the same chairs outside a dispersal hut).  This chair is in good '+' used condition.  It is a bit sun bleached but the frame is completely sound with no movement in the joints and the majority of the wicker is excellent.  There are a few small areas of minor damage, loss and wear as shown but it wouldn't be difficult to glue in the loose ends and replace missing sections if required.  The chair has clear Air Ministry crown mark and 1942 date.  A fabulous and extremely rare piece for your collection room.  It is offered for collection by the buyer as too bulky to post.  Stock code M26290.

Approximate maximum measurements : 65cm wide, 62cm front to back, 72cm tall.
