RAF Mess Dress boots - Battle of Britain pilot?

By Burberry. Size unknown. Unlined black leather 'Wellington' boots worn with RAF Mess dress uniforms. This pair came in with kit relating to Battle Of Britain pilot, Group Captain George Powell-Shedden DSO, DFC, but we cannot link them directly to him definitively. Condition is fair. There is some cracking, flaking and loss of the patent finish and the leather is quite stiff/rigid in the foot area making them usnuitable for wear. The 'uppers' remain very flexible and the whilst the original leather soles and heels are worn, they are in good order. The boots have manufacturer's details inside and some indistinct numbers.
