RAF C-type flying helmet, early pattern

SOLD

Code: H26833

Stores reference 22c/451.  Size 3.  The leather is in good '+' to very good overall condition.  It remains very supple with just minor scuffing and surface lifting on the centre panels.  Clearly stamped with A Crown M and reference codes.  This early example has just 2 press studs fitted, making it suitable for the E-type oxygen mask.  Another early feature of this helmet is the 'one-up, one down' strap configuration.  All of these are good although the press studs have lost some of their original coatings.  Excellent Bennett buckle but the small metal securing loop is absent.  Excellent chinstrap complete with metal end tip.  The rubber receiver carriers are excellent reproductions.  The chamois lining is undamaged and has average soiling.  Indistinctly named/numbered to a Sgt. Jones inside one of the inner 'donuts'.  A linen label stitched in at the crown has King's crown, Air Ministry, size and stores reference details.  Sold unwired.  A very good example of this rare early version of the C-type.  Stock code H26833.
