RAF Mk.4 flying suit

SOLD

Code: S26587

Stores reference 22c/1963.  Suits, Flying, Cotton Gaberdine, Blue/Grey, Mk.4/4A.  Size 6, height 68-72", weight greater than 174lbs.  Blue-grey ventile one-piece flying suit with zip fastening from crotch to the neck, angled zipped chest pockets, zipped ankle openings and zipped pockets on both thighs.  Button/tab adjustable cuffs and buckled straps at the waist.  Flapped pockets with button closures on the lower legs and left thigh.  Pen pockets on the upper left arm.  With stitched epaulettes.  Integral internal braces help alleviate the weight of the suit when worn.  The cloth is generally in very good condition.  There is some soiling including an ink stain at the base of the left breast pocket and there are darned repairs where the knife patch has been removed and at the base of the right leg map pocket.  There is also some darning and a couple of patches where the leg restraint channels have been sewn up/modified.  All zips are original, complete with cloth puller tabs and function correctly.  Named to Wing Commander (later Group Captain), D. G. Green and has a rather fresh looking 617 (Dam Busters) squadron patch sewn to the left breast.  With original 1958 dated label.  A good example.  Research suggests this may have belonged to Air Commodore David Abbot Green CBE, OBE, DSO, DFC.  Born in 1919, he flew with 207 & 44 Squadrons during WW2 and was CO of XV Squadron in 1958, and became station commander of RAF Honington in 1960.  Green retired in 1971 and died in 1990.  Stock code S26587.
