British WW2 General Service Respirator & Pack

SOLD

Code: M26946

General Service Respirator, perhaps more commonly referred to as a 'Gas Mask',  worn by the Army, Home Guard and Civil Defence in the early part of WW2.  Comprised of a black rubber facemask, manufactured by Avon Rubber and dated 9-41.  This is connected via a canvas covered corrugated rubber tube to a red MK.4A filtration canister also dated 1941.  The facemask retains very good shape and is flexible but does have some crazing and cracks when flexed (note the two flexed/unflexed images of the same section of the mask).  Both eyepieces are good and the 1941 dated head harness retains elasticity.  Both the tube and canister are very good.  The respirator comes with its original 1941 dated Mk.VI haversack/pack by The Mills Equipment Co. Ltd.  This is sound undamaged but rather dirty condition, complete with detachable shoulder strap and string to secure around the chest when worn.  A 1940 dated Mk.V anti-dimming outfit completes the set.  Stock code M26946.

NB Should not be worn.
