RAF 1936 pattern 'private purchase' flying boots, A.M. tagged

SOLD

Code: B26969

Approximately size 9 (31cm from toe to heel).  Although these do have Air Ministry labels we believe them to be 'standard' private purchase 1936 pattern flying boots.  Made to the same pattern as the 'official' issue type but in a slightly stippled texture, rather than smooth finished hide.  The leather is generally in very good condition bar light scuffing, surface marks and quite heavy creasing around the toe area (padded internally with bubblwrap for these photos).  A small patch has been applied to the side of the right boot as shown but this isn't particularly obvious and doesn't really detract.  Good straps and buckles.  Fitted with nailed leather soles and rubber heelplates, both quite worn.  There appears to have been some repairwork to the welt of the right boot at some stage.  The fur linings are a bit grubby but appear largely complete and come with insoles.  This pair has never had any inner puller tabs but do have stitched labels in the rear seams, unfortunately these are difficult to read.  Adjacent to these are genuine Air Ministry labels, one of which is 1935 dated.  However, we believe these do not relate to flying boots at all and were added by a previous owner in an attempt to make then appear to be of official issue pattern.  Nevertheless, this is a good '+'  used pair of boots at about one third the price of an equivalent Air Ministry marked pair.  Stock code B26969.
