RAF Emergency Flying Ration, Mk.II, c/w contents

SOLD

Code: S24596

Stores reference 27P/7.  Approximately 11 x 8.5 x 2.8cm.  Gilt coloured metal box similar to an old tobacco tin.  Printed with A 'Crown' M on the lid and with a list on contents on the base : barley sugar sweets, chewing gum, malted milk tablets and energy tablets.  Dated 6/44?  The tin has surface wear with some corrosion but all the text on the lid remains clear and legible.  The underside of the lid is printed with instructions for use but these are very faint.  Very unusually this example retains most of the original contents including three sealed packs of Horlicks (malted milk) tablets and another complete pack minus outer wrapper, one pack of chewing gum and the energy tablets (5 small metal tubes each with 6 tablets) contained in a card box with an instruction leaflet. There should be more chewing gum and the barley sugar sweets are missing.  What content there is appears to be in good overall condition.  These rations were officially issued as part of the dinghy survival kit but saw wider distribution with lightweight survival flying suits and other kit.  Not for use or consumption.  A rare find.  Stock code S24596.
