RAF airman's leather 'kit' bag, named

SOLD

Code: M26376

Leather holdall approximately 58 x 26 x 26cm.  Fitted with a single zip fastener, twin leather handles and studs to the base.  Whilst the leather is scuffed and marked with variable patination and some loss of chroming, it remains strong, supple and durable with good handles.  The brass 'Tu-Way' branded zip functions but there is damage to the zip tape close to the centre and care is needed to prevent further damage.  The holdall is named in black (paint) to 'BARRETT', '162173 RAF'.  This came to us with other kit, including a flying helmet, oxygen mask and Irvin named to Donald Royston Barrett (162173/1672044).  Born in West Yorkshire in 1916, he enlisted at Padgate after November 1941, was a Flying Officer (war subst.) c. 4th August 1944 and he appears to have ended the war as a Flight Lieutenant (war subst.) c. February 1946.  He died in 2007.  Unfortunately we have no other information on him.  Stock code M26376.
