Steel 'dart' as dropped by aircrews over the trenches to maim, injure & kill troops & horses. Approx. 12cms in length x 8mm diameter. Circular section shaft with pointed tip & cruciform 'tail' section to aid stability in flight. Light surface corrosion, otherwise very good. Engraved/stamped 'Invention Francais' and 'Fabrication Allemand'. Presumably used by the Imperial German Air Force. Similar patterns were used by other air forces during the Great War.
